Reducing Chemicals in Your Cleaning Products
Reducing the chemicals we use around home is not only less expensive but is also much safer for you and your family. Even though you are not ingesting them, you come into contact with these surfaces and the chemicals are still absorbed in to your skin. Here are some homemade recipes that you can use that are much more safe than regular products. Please remember to label your homemade products!!
Air Freshner / Deodorizer
1 Tbsp of Vinegar
1 Cup of Water
2-3 Drops of Essential Oil
Combine the ingredients into a spray bottle. Use spray as desired, in trash cans, in the air, on cutting boards
All Purpose Cleaners
Sprinkle Baking soda on surface and rub clean with a damp cloth. Rinse with water
Carpet Cleaner
3/4 of a cup of Baking Soda
2 tbsp of Cornstarch
Combine ingredients. Sprinkle onto carpet, let stand 5 – 15 minutes then vaccum.
Furniture Polish
1/2 tsp of Olive Oil
1/4 cup of Vinegar
1 tsp of Lemon Juice
Combine ingredients. Take a soft cloth and dab into mixture, and wipe on furniture.
Garbage Pail Deodorizer
Sprinkle Baking Soda in the bottom
Mold Remover
1 Cup of Vinegar
4-5 Drops of Tea Tree Oil
Combine ingredients. Spray or pour onto mold. Do not wipe off, the smell will eventually dissipate.
Pot Scrubber
Soak in Baking Soda and water Solution for a few hours.
Refrigerator Deodorizer
Place 1 box of baking soda inside.
Scuff Marks and Grease Spills
Sprinkle with Baking Soda and wipe with warm damp cloth.
Silvers
3 Tbsp of Baking Soda
1 Tbsp of water
Combine ingredients. Rub silver with paste, rinse with warm water, clean with soft dry cloth.
Smelly Containers
Rinse container with hot water and Baking Soda. For stubborn smells, soak overnight in baking soda solution.
Stain Remover
6 Tbsp of Baking Soda
1/2 Cup of water
Combine ingredients. Rub paste on clothing to remove stains, blood, sweat, fruit/wine, and vomit stains.
