Surviving Holiday Feasts

When it comes to the holidays, overeating usually causes weight gain. Throughout this site, I have promoted that you can eat anything you want during the day for weight loss, the key is in portions. Eat small portions throughout the day. Here are some tips on how to reduce your portion size.

Try using a smaller plate. You can go up for seconds if you are still hungry. This way, it will help minimize the amount of food you initially take. And also, people tend to wait before getting up and filling a second plate. This will allow time for your stomach to signal to your brain whether you are still hungry, satisfied, or full.

Take half of what you normally would. This takes a little more discipline then the above suggestion, but essentially works the same. It takes more self control not to fill up the plate. Before putting anything on the plate, stop, think about the amount you would normally put on, then only place half on. If you would normally grab a handful of crackers, grab half a handful.

Drink a cup of water before and after a plate. A lot of the time when we think we are hungry, we are just thirsty. The cup of water before is to hydrate you, and help you feel satisfied. Today, not very many people actually drink the recommended amount of water per day. Water helps you feel satisfied, digest food, clean out your internal systems and helps with bowel movements. Keeping this rule will help you drink the recommended amount.

Try loading up half your plate with vegetables and fruit. Vegetables and fruit help you feel satisfied faster and will help stop you from over eating. They also provide fibre to your body which will help you lose weight, clean out your body, and help with it’s internal system.
