It is important to tell other people of your intentions, especially the ones who see you on a daily basis. Not only will it provide motivation, but will also deter them from leading you astray. Let’s use weight loss as an example. Ask your partner and co-workers not to eat candy or chocolate in front of you, or what ever your problem is.
If you a smoker, ask your smoker friends not to ask you to go out for a smoke break, instead find non-smoking friends and perhaps have a chat with them, or go for a walk with them. If your partner smokes, ask him/her not to smoke in front of you or go in another room or outside.
These friends and family members can also help encourage you, or remind you ( in case you forgot) about your goal. Make sure that if they are encouraging you, they use positive reinforcement. If they use negative reinforcement, like teasing, ask them to please stop as that will only discourage you.
